Is attendance mandatory?
AI Exploration Day is a required academic experience for students and instructors who would normally be attending classes on campus that Thursday. Daytime classes are repurposed so students and instructors can participate in the event during the times they would ordinarily be in class. Students and instructors who do not have Thursday classes may engage through recorded sessions and follow-up coursework at the discretion of their instructor.
Do I need to register?
Yes. All current NJIT students, faculty, instructors, and staff can register for the event using their NJIT email address. Attendees must use the registration link, select their ticket type (NJIT faculty/instructor, NJIT staff, or NJIT student) and complete the registration form. Do I need the Whova app?
Yes. Whova is required for, viewing the full program, and accessing session locations, and updates.
What if I don’t have class on Thursdays?
Students and instructors who do not normally have classes on Thursdays are encouraged to attend in person if possible. If they do not attend, they may engage with the event through recordings and post-event assignments.
Will sessions be recorded?
The keynote, panel discussion, and featured breakout sessions will be recorded and shared after the event. Due to the interactive nature of many sessions, not all breakout sessions will be recorded.

What is AI Exploration Day?
AI Exploration Day is a campus-wide conference-style event focused on exploring the role of artificial intelligence in education, work, and society. Through keynote talks, breakout sessions, interactive experiences, and a student showcase, the day invites critical engagement with AI’s opportunities, risks, and societal implications.
Who is organizing AI Exploration Day?
AI Exploration Day is a Provost-led initiative organized by a campus-wide Steering Committee composed of faculty, staff, and administrators from across NJIT. A full list of Steering Committee members and other community members supporting this initiative is available on the NJIT event website.
Who can attend AI Exploration Day?
AI Exploration Day is open to NJIT students, faculty, and staff. Invited guests from higher education, industry, and government will also participate in select sessions.

That’s okay. Programming runs throughout the day, and attendees are welcome to participate in the portions of the event that align with their availability and academic schedule.

How do I register for the event?
A registration announcement with a link to register and instructions was sent from the Office of the Provost on January 27th. All current NJIT students, faculty, instructors, and staff can register for the event using their NJIT email address. Attendees must use the registration link, select their ticket type (NJIT faculty/instructor, NJIT staff, or NJIT student) and complete the registration form. Do I need to download the Whova app?
Yes. All attendees must download the Whova event app. Whova will serve as the primary platform for registration, the full program schedule, session locations, and day-of updates.
Who will be speaking at AI Exploration Day?
Featured speakers and panelists will be announced on the event website and in the Whova app as they are confirmed. The first announced keynote speaker is Dr. Ethan Mollick.
What types of sessions will be offered?
The program will include keynote talks, breakout sessions, interactive demonstrations, a student showcase, and an industry panel, covering technical, ethical, social, creative, and professional perspectives on AI.
Will sessions be recorded?
The keynote, panel discussion, and featured breakout sessions will be recorded and shared after the event. Due to the interactive nature of many sessions, not all breakout sessions will be recorded.
How do I check in on the day of the event?
Check-in information will be shared closer to the event. Attendees will need to have their registration/ticket information as well as the Whova app.
How will I know where each session is located?
Session times, locations, and room assignments will be listed in the Whova app, which will serve as the most up-to-date source of program information.
What if I arrive late?
Attendees may join sessions in progress or attend later sessions as their schedule allows. The Whova app will help you navigate the program in real time to see what is happening at a given moment during the day.
What should I know about parking and transportation?
Parking is expected to be more limited than usual on the day of the event due to increased campus activity. Attendees are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for arrival. The planning team is coordinating additional parking and transportation options, including shuttle service, and more detailed guidance will be shared closer to the event.
When should I plan to arrive on campus?
Arrival times will vary depending on which sessions you plan to attend. Because AI Exploration Day will bring a high volume of visitors to campus, attendees are encouraged to arrive early when possible and build in extra travel time. Additional arrival and transportation recommendations will be shared as the event approaches.
When should I plan to arrive for the morning events?
If you are attending the 8:30 AM Kickoff and the 9:00 AM Keynote, please give yourself extra time to travel to campus. You will be navigating standard Newark morning rush-hour traffic alongside a high volume of event attendees, so arriving early is highly recommended.
Where can I park on campus?
Parking will be limited and is available strictly on a first-come, first-served basis.
Science and Technology Garage: Please note that a subset of parking spaces here will be reserved for external event guests, meaning there will be fewer spaces available for the campus community than on a typical day.
Overflow Parking: Once the main campus decks are filled, please utilize the Essex County College parking deck (193 Academy St, Newark, NJ 07013) for overflow parking.
What are the security procedures for the BWEC Arena?
To ensure a safe event for everyone, all attendees must pass through a security screening every time they enter the BWEC Arena. This applies to the morning keynote, the afternoon student showcase, the industry panel, and all other arena events. Please note that this is not a one-time morning check; you will be screened upon every re-entry.
Do I need to show my registration to get into the arena?
Yes. Registered attendees must be prepared to pull up their Whova registration (via your confirmation email or directly in the Whova app) when entering the BWEC Arena.
Can I bring a bag or backpack into the BWEC Arena?
Yes, but we highly recommend leaving bags behind if possible. There will be two dedicated security lines at the entrance: a Bag line and a No-Bag line. The No-Bag line will move significantly faster, so please allow extra wait time if you need to use the Bag-Check line. Tip for NJIT Community Members: If you are NJIT faculty or staff, we highly recommend leaving your bags or backpacks in your secure office before coming over to the BWEC.
Will the BWEC pool and fitness center be open during the event?
During AI Exploration Day, access to the BWEC pool and fitness center will be restricted to NJIT athletes only.
Where can I get lunch during the event?
All regular on-campus dining options will remain open and available to you! However, please anticipate additional wait times, as our external event guests are also invited to use the campus dining facilities.
